After leaving high school, I did a one-year landscaping course in West Auckland. I quickly developed a love for plants. I was so motivated to learn more about them that I memorised one botanical name every day for the year. To this day, I continue to devote a lot of time to expand my knowledge of plants.
After graduating, I went on to work for a large landscape and garden maintenance company while at the same time completing a three-year Advanced Certificate in Horticulture. A few years later, I moved into a management role, supervising large projects and crews for another prominent company. I gained valuable knowledge on how to run a business and thanks to the lead designer, still had the opportunity to work on design and planting projects, many of them for high profile architects.
After 18 years of working for someone else, I decided to head out on my own and set up Symmetry Landscaping. It enables me to do more of the work that inspires me - design gardens, work close to the earth, closely with clients and to be more hands-on with plants.
